When to act
Professional repair makes all the difference
Even the finest rugs can suffer damage over time, but the right repairs can extend their life for decades. You'll benefit from our restoration services when you notice:
- Frayed or unravelling edges that worsen with each cleaning
- Holes or tears from furniture placement or pet activity
- Faded areas that need reweaving to match original patterns
- A worn foundation requiring structural reinforcement
- Damage from water, moths, or improper storage
Minor damage can quickly become a major problem. We'll assess your rug's condition and recommend the most effective repair approach to preserve its value and appearance.
Honest assessment
Clear pricing before any work begins
Addressing damage early prevents more costly repairs down the road. Whether you've inherited a vintage Persian rug or invested in a contemporary designer piece, our repair services can address everything from simple edge binding to complex reweaving projects. We'll provide an honest assessment and clear pricing before any work begins.
The work
What we repair, and what it involves
Nearly all of this is hand work. Wool is matched to the original colour and knot count so the repair reads as part of the rug rather than a patch.
Fringe and end stopping
The fringe is the foundation, so a fraying end is losing knots, not just looking untidy. We secure the end first, then hand-fringe it. Caught early this is one of the cheaper repairs.
Selvedge and edge binding
The sides wear where traffic and furniture meet the rug. Rebinding by hand stops the damage spreading into the field.
Reweaving
Holes, tears and worn-through patches are rebuilt knot by knot on a new foundation. Slow work, but very little is genuinely beyond it.
Moth damage
The pile goes but the foundation often survives, which means the area can be rewoven. Cleaning first removes larvae and eggs.
Pet damage
Chewed corners are rebuilt. Urine is the harder problem because it moves dye and weakens the foundation.
Recolouring
Sun-faded and worn areas can be brought back by hand where reweaving is not warranted.
Blocking
Rugs that have gone out of square — usually from bad drying or a bad pad — are stretched and reset.
Timing
Why sooner is cheaper
Almost every repair costs less when it is caught early, and the reason is structural. A frayed end loses a row of knots at a time; by the time it looks serious, the fix is reweaving rather than fringing. A worn selvedge lets the side unravel into the field. Moths do not stop on their own.
If you are not sure whether something needs attention, send a photograph of the front, the back and the damage. We will tell you whether to act now or leave it alone, and we say leave it alone more often than people expect.

Honest assessment
When we will tell you not to bother
Sometimes a repair costs more than the rug is worth, and we will say so plainly. That happens most often with machine-made rugs and with pieces where the foundation has gone.
We would rather give you that answer than take the work. It is the reason people come back to us with the next rug.
